A survey of 10,000 companies by tax authorities in the United States found that at least 1.2 million companies in the U.S. had assets of $1.1 trillion in their accounts and $1 trillion of assets were subject to tax liabilities.
Tax liens of that size are typically the result of complex corporate transactions or large corporate restructurings.
The report also found that about half of all such companies had more than $1 billion in liabilities and $5 billion in assets.
