NHL announces expansion of Maple Leafs’ home opener at Toronto facility
NHL has confirmed that it is seeking to expand Maple Leafs home opener to Toronto’s Scotiabank Saddledome at the end of the season.
The league confirmed to NHL.com that the Toronto Maple Leafs will play a home-opener in the 2019-20 season against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 4, 2020.
The Blue Jackets’ season opens on March 3, 2020, and is scheduled to end on March 10, 2020 when the Leafs play host to the Anaheim Ducks.
The Leafs and Blue Jackets play each other six times in the regular season and each is home to a home team.
The NHL said the 2018-19 season was the only one to date to feature a home opener in Toronto.
The first game between the two teams was in late January in Columbus.
The team will open the 2019 NHL season on March 5 against the Ottawa Senators at the Air Canada Centre.
The Maple Leafs also will open their first home game of the 2019 regular season against Ottawa on March 6 at 5 p.m.
The Maple Leafs and Senators will meet again at TD Place on March 8.
The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, will open against the Detroit Red Wings at 7 p.mp on March 14 at Nationwide Arena.
The game is slated to be played at 7:30 p.mdt.
